How a Tant Saree Is Woven

How a Tant Saree Is Woven

A tant saree takes a weaver about two days on a pit loom — the rhythm of the shuttle is the sound of Tangail.

  • Cotton yarn is starched with rice water for crispness.
  • The border (par) is woven in at the same time as the body.
  • The anchal at the end gets the finest work.
  • Every saree is checked by hand before it leaves.

A good tant feels crisp on day one and soft by the tenth wash.
